Twisted Slouch Beanie Free Crochet Pattern
Twisted Slouch Beanie Free Crochet Pattern
This crochet beanie pattern was the first pattern I had ever written. I spent the last week of December writing, testing, and getting it ready for a January 1, 2018 release. Now, 4 years later, I’m releasing it for free on my blog. This beanie features a ribbed band for optimal stretchiness, and sections of texture to create interest and warmth in the winter and early spring. I’ve made this hat with both one and two colors so it works up easily with whichever way you decide to go! The pom pom is totally optional too! I’m pretty sure my sister ended up stealing the hat when I wasn’t looking that year. Enjoy my Twisted Slouch Beanie Crochet Pattern.

Gauge
Band Gauge: 8 BPDC x 14 rows = 4 inches
Body Gauge: rows 2-8 = 2 inches wide
Pattern:
Band: Worked in Rows, CH 2 at beginning does not count as DC
Ch 10
Row 1: SC in 3rd chain, SC Across, turn (9)
Row 2: CH 2, SC in same stitch, BLO SC in the next 7 stitches, SC in last stitch, turn (9)
Rows 3-64: Repeat row 2 (9)
Band should measure about 17.5 inches long before seaming.
SC the ends of the band together to form the band. Turn band right side out.
From here you’ll be working into the band to create the body of the hat. I designed this hat to have a fairly clean decrease and finish off as I don’t like the scrunched look for beanies.
Notes for the body portion of the hat:
- CH 1 or 2 does NOT count as a stitch, but CH 3 DOES count as a stitch
- There is no turning for each row. You will work on the right side the whole time.
Body: Worked in the round, joined at the end of each row. No turns
Round 1: CH 1, 2 SC in same stitch, work 2 SC into the end of each row to create an even border on the band. (84) [I did a color change here]
