Summer Musings

2020 has been a year so far, and it’s only June. Crafters are making so much right now from face masks to Christmas present. My summer musings have brought me to a couple different roads. On one had I want to make and design all the crochet summer stuff. On another I want to try other things I haven’t done yet, like to do resin work or to play with plaster. Then my summer musings brings me back around to what am I going to do in my art classroom in the fall. So here’s the journey of my summer musings and what I’ve done to satisfy some of them.

New Designs

So I have been working on some new designs off and on this summer. I’ve made a couple different mug rug designs like my watermelon mug rug or my alpine stitch mug rug. I’ve also been working on a new crop top that is pretty basic with a small lace flourish at the bottom. This top is kind of my summer baby this year because I’m taking my time. This top will have sizes from XS to 5X so of course I want to take my time. I want it to work for each size! I’ve partnered with a local yarn truck (yes truck) for the yarn that’s a delicious cotton and nylon mix called Gelato. I hope to have it released before August so we’ll see. Below I’ve included a photo of my new top.

I’m also working on some new winter designs like fingerless gloves to match my Aspen Chroma cowl. I’ll probably have another pattern or two, but so far nothing has come to mind! Cold weather pattern ideas tend to hit me closer to the cold coming so we’ll see what happens.

Experimenting with other things

Now being a trained artist, I enjoy playing in a variety of media. I happen to drift towards crochet as I’ve been doing it so long, but sometimes I get this want to do something else. I typically pull out the watercolors when that happens, but it doesn’t always satiate the want for something else. I’ve tried some digital art and it doesn’t help either. Recently, I’ve really wanted to play with plaster or resin. I’m not sure why, but I have and unfortunately I don’t have either of them on hand. So instead I throw that energy into painting or crochet, but the want for something different is so real and hard to resist. Do you like to play and experiment with other materials? Do you happen to be a jack of all trades or only one or two areas are your specialty? I tend to be more of a jack of all trades when I want to just create.

So there you have it, my summer musings. I decided not to touch on my classroom because we all have no idea what education will look like in the fall and we don’t need to linger on it as much right now.
